Montemorelos, México… [Adolfo Ruiz/IAHFC]

Last August 31, just a few minutes after taking the highway towards Monterrey, a semitrailer coming in the opposite direction lost control which resulted in a terrible automobile accident where Edgar Flowers and his wife, Norma, were involved.  Edgar received a blow to his neck and base of the skull with fatal consequences.  He was taken to the Montemorelos University Hospital where Adventist doctors and nurses struggled to restore heartbeat, which they did, but brain damage was irreversible.  Later he was transferred to a specialized hospital in Monterrey where after two days of exams and tests, he was declared brain dead.  Norma left the scene of the accident with slight injuries.

Edgar had just finished a day of work and with his wife, Norma, headed to the city of Monterrey on personal business as they had just married barely a month and a few days before, and were still furnishing their home.

In the middle of this painful tragedy, their friends and colleagues, and the Montemorelos University Church were united in prayer but the will of God was that Edgar would rest.  On Saturday, the 4th of September, Edgar passed away.

Edgar Flores Laguna was born the 8th of June 1977 in Ciudad Constitución, South Baja California.  He lived for a time in Chiapas and in 1988 his family moved to the University of Montemorelos where he finished grade school, secondary education and preparatory school.  In 1998 he graduated with a degree in Accounting.  He began his professional career at the Publishing House in Montemorelos and in 2000, he took the position of Accountant for La Carlota Bakery in Montemorelos, an Interamerican Division Health Foods Company.  In the last two years, he served as Assistant for Financial Affairs.  On the 25th of July just recently, he married Miss Norma Olave Hermosillo, originally from the State of Chihuahua.

On Sunday, September 5, the funeral service was well attended by more than two thousand people, relatives, friends, colleagues, teammates from the soccer league where Edgar played, local bank personnel and Adventist family at the University Church of Montemorelos. They all came together to receive solace and reaffirm our blessed hope that we will see Edgar soon.  His co-workers shared in his last afternoon of work and they remember him smiling and joking.

Edgar continues to serve others because, although on Sunday, September 5, his friends and relatives lamented his departure, in many homes across Mexico that same morning there was hope and life because Edgar’s vital organs were donated.

A missionary for the Lord now rests.  May you rest in peace, Edgar Flores Laguna (1977-2004).
