Despu\u00e9s de obtener licenciaturas en tecnolog\u00eda y tecnolog\u00eda qu\u00edmica, asisti\u00f3 al Colegio Avondale, en donde en 1959 obtuvo una licenciatura en teolog\u00eda y conoci\u00f3 a su esposa, Noelene.<\/p>\n<p>Asisti\u00f3 entonces a la Universidad Andrews, en donde obtuvo una maestr\u00eda en teolog\u00eda sistem\u00e1tica en 1966. En 1973, obtuvo un doctorado en estudios b\u00edblicos por la Universidad Vanderbilt. Su tesis doctoral llevaba por t\u00edtulo \u201cContaminaci\u00f3n y Purificaci\u00f3n en el Libro de Hebreos\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Durante su larga carrera, el doctor Johnsson fue misionero en India de 1960 a 1975. Prest\u00f3 sus servicios en la Universidad Andrews como profesor de ex\u00e9gesis y teolog\u00eda del Nuevo \u00a0Testamento, de 1975 a 1980 y fue decano asociado del seminario teol\u00f3gico de 1978 a 1980. En \u00a01979 fue elegido como primer presidente de la Sociedad Adventista de Estudios Religiosos.<\/p>\n<p>El doctor Johnsson fue tambi\u00e9n fideicomisario del Patrimonio Elena G. White la mayor parte del tiempo que fue editor de Adventist Review. Despu\u00e9s de acogerse a la jubilaci\u00f3n en 2006, prest\u00f3 sus servicios como asistente de tiempo parcial del presidente de la Asociaci\u00f3n General en la oficina de Relaciones Interreligiosas.<\/p>\n<p>El doctor Johnsson escribi\u00f3 m\u00e1s de 40 libros y 1,000 art\u00edculos.
