Le 10 avril dernier, les membres du comit\u00e9 ex\u00e9cutif de la Conf\u00e9rence g\u00e9n\u00e9rale (CG) des adventistes du septi\u00e8me jour ont vot\u00e9 d\u2019accepter la nomination de Pierre E. Omeler au poste vacant de vice-pr\u00e9sident de la CG. Le pasteur Omeler remplace Maurice Valentine, qui est d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9 de mani\u00e8re inattendue en octobre 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n

La d\u00e9cision, effective imm\u00e9diatement, a \u00e9t\u00e9 prise lors de la deuxi\u00e8me journ\u00e9e des r\u00e9unions printani\u00e8res de l\u2019\u00c9glise tenues \u00e0 son si\u00e8ge social de Silver Spring, dans l\u2019\u00c9tat am\u00e9ricain du Maryland.<\/span><\/p>\n

Omeler, nouvellement nomm\u00e9 \u00e0 un poste de vice-pr\u00e9sident de la Conf\u00e9rence g\u00e9n\u00e9rale, s\u2019est adress\u00e9 aux personnes pr\u00e9sentes lors de la r\u00e9union printani\u00e8re. [Une photo d\u2019Enno M\u00fcller, <\/span>Adventist Review<\/span><\/i>]<\/span><\/p><\/div>Le pasteur Omeler, dans ses premi\u00e8res paroles apr\u00e8s sa nomination au poste de vice-pr\u00e9sident, a promis de servir avec \u00ab\u00a0dignit\u00e9 et honneur pour la gloire de Dieu\u00a0\u00bb et a soulign\u00e9 l\u2019appel unique de l\u2019\u00c9glise adventiste du septi\u00e8me jour. \u00ab\u00a0Nous aimons cette \u00c9glise, a-t-il dit. Wilson, pr\u00e9sident de la CG, a confirm\u00e9 sa nomination. \u00ab\u00a0Le pasteur Omeler est tr\u00e8s ax\u00e9 sur l\u2019\u00e9vang\u00e9lisation, une personne \u00e9galement tr\u00e8s spirituelle\u00a0\u00bb, a-t-il fait remarquer en ajoutant que lui et sa femme forment \u00ab\u00a0une \u00e9quipe extraordinaire\u00a0\u00bb. Un service consacr\u00e9<\/b><\/p>\n

Le pasteur Omeler \u00e9tait le pr\u00e9sident de l\u2019Union des f\u00e9d\u00e9rations de l\u2019Atlantique (AUC pour <\/span>Atlantic Union Conference<\/span><\/i>) depuis novembre 2021. L\u2019AUC comprend la r\u00e9gion du nord-est des \u00c9tats-Unis ainsi que la nation insulaire des Bermudes. Elle comprend six f\u00e9d\u00e9rations, quelque 600\u00a0\u00e9glises et 133\u00a0000\u00a0membres baptis\u00e9s.<\/span><\/p>\n

Avant sa nomination \u00e0 ce poste de pr\u00e9sident, il servait \u00e0 titre de secr\u00e9taire (2016-2021) et de vice-pr\u00e9sident (2011-2016) de l\u2019AUC. Il a \u00e9galement occup\u00e9 le poste de directeur des minist\u00e8res ha\u00eftiens (2008-2011) et de pasteur (1991-2008) au sein de la F\u00e9d\u00e9ration du nord-est.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tout en arrivant \u00e0 la Conf\u00e9rence g\u00e9n\u00e9rale avec une vaste exp\u00e9rience, le pasteur Omeler vient \u00e9galement apporter une profondeur spirituelle ainsi qu\u2019une passion pour l\u2019\u00e9vang\u00e9lisation interculturelle, ont dit les dirigeants de l\u2019\u00c9glise. Alex Bryant, pr\u00e9sident de la Division nord-am\u00e9ricaine, a soulign\u00e9 son insistance sur l\u2019\u00e9vang\u00e9lisation. \u00ab\u00a0Environ quatre mois apr\u00e8s \u00eatre devenu pr\u00e9sident d\u2019union, le pasteur Omeler a organis\u00e9 le tout premier congr\u00e8s du genre sur l\u2019\u00e9vang\u00e9lisation, o\u00f9 il a rassembl\u00e9 tous les pasteurs et les administrateurs de f\u00e9d\u00e9ration afin de d\u00e9velopper des strat\u00e9gies sur la meilleure fa\u00e7on d\u2019\u00e9vang\u00e9liser tout le territoire de l\u2019union.\u00a0\u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n

Selon le pasteur Bryant, le pasteur Omeler cherchait \u00e0 travailler en collaboration avec ses coll\u00e8gues et avec ceux qui \u00e9taient sous sa supervision, les propulsant dans la mission avec gr\u00e2ce et humilit\u00e9.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Parcours personnel\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Le pasteur Pierre Omeler est n\u00e9 en Ha\u00efti et parle couramment le fran\u00e7ais. Il a d\u00e9m\u00e9nag\u00e9 aux \u00c9tats-Unis en 1981 afin de poursuivre son \u00e9ducation \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Oakwood, \u00e0 Huntsville, en Alabama, o\u00f9 il a compl\u00e9t\u00e9 un baccalaur\u00e9at en th\u00e9ologie avec une mineure en langues bibliques en 1986. Il a ensuite compl\u00e9t\u00e9 une ma\u00eetrise en divinit\u00e9 de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Andrews (1991) ainsi qu\u2019un doctorat en \u00e9tudes pastorales du United Theological Seminary (2015).<\/span><\/p>\n

Il est mari\u00e9 avec Myra Norman, une infirmi\u00e8re autoris\u00e9e, depuis 39 ans; ils ont trois enfants adultes et quatre petits-enfants.<\/span><\/p>\n
