L\u2019\u00e9glise adventiste \u00e0 Assiout a \u00e9t\u00e9 incendi\u00e9e par des attaquants extr\u00e9mistes, le 14 Ao\u00fbt dernier. Les officiels de l\u2019Eglise ont tenu \u00e0 affirmer que cette attaque ne faisait pas partie d\u2019un plus grand mouvement politique. Le gouvernement s\u2019est engag\u00e9 \u00e0 payer pour les r\u00e9parations des gros dommages subis par plusieurs \u00e9glises chr\u00e9tiennes de la r\u00e9gion. L\u2019incendie d\u2019une \u00e9glise Adventiste du Septi\u00e8me jour dans la ville d\u2019Assiout \u00e0 l\u2019occasion des \u00e9meutes de la nuit derni\u00e8re n\u2019\u00e9tait pas l\u2019expression d\u2019une d\u00e9marche politique organis\u00e9e et plus large, ont dit les responsables locaux de l\u2019\u00e9glise.<\/p>\n

L\u2019\u00e9glise Adventiste d\u2019Assiout, situ\u00e9e environ \u00e0 355 kms au sud du Caire, a \u00e9t\u00e9 attaqu\u00e9e par une bande et fortement endommag\u00e9e apr\u00e8s que le feu y ait \u00e9t\u00e9 mis. Le pasteur et son \u00e9pouse se sont cach\u00e9s dans leur appartement situ\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tage et n\u2019ont pas \u00e9t\u00e9 trouv\u00e9s par les \u00e9meutiers qui ont mis le feu au b\u00e2timent. Le pasteur et son \u00e9pouse ont \u00e9t\u00e9 sauv\u00e9s du b\u00e2timent en feu par des voisins Musulmans.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Il s\u2019agissait d\u2019un petit groupe de personnes d\u00e9cid\u00e9es \u00e0 faire mal. Cet incident n\u2019est repr\u00e9sentatif ni de l\u2019Egypte ni du peuple \u00e9gyptien, \u00bb a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Llewellyn R. Edwards, pr\u00e9sident du Champ Egypte-Soudan dont le si\u00e8ge est \u00e0 Heliopolis.<\/p>\n

\u00ab En tant qu\u2019Adventistes, nous souhaitons que nos relations soient fortes avec les \u00e9gyptiens de toutes confessions qui sont dans le pays, \u00bb a dit Edwards.<\/p>\n

Les voisins Musulmans ayant secouru le couple Adventiste montrent \u00ab la v\u00e9ritable image de la majorit\u00e9 des gens en Egypte, \u00bb a dit encore Llewellyn Edwards.<\/p>\n

Pasteur Edwards a indiqu\u00e9 que le gouvernement a annonc\u00e9 qu\u2019il paierait pour la reconstruction de toutes les \u00e9glises d\u00e9truites la nuit derni\u00e8re lors des \u00e9meutes qui ont eu lieu dans plusieurs villes.<\/p>\n

Plusieurs autres \u00e9glises Chr\u00e9tiennes ont subi des attaques \u00e0 Assiout, de m\u00eame que le magasin de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Biblique Egyptienne, a indiqu\u00e9 pasteur Edwards.<\/p>\n
