L\u2019\u00e9quipe de transplantation du Centre m\u00e9dical de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Loma Linda (LLUH pour Loma Linda University Health<\/em>) a r\u00e9cemment battu son propre record avec un marathon de huit transplantations en 72\u00a0heures. Le marathon, par co\u00efncidence, a \u00e9galement marqu\u00e9 deux jalons importants pour l\u2019\u00e9quipe\u00a0: 1\u00a0000\u00a0donneurs vivants ainsi que 4\u00a0000\u00a0transplantations au total pour l\u2019\u00e9tablissement de soins de sant\u00e9 situ\u00e9 \u00e0 Loma Linda, dans l\u2019\u00c9tat am\u00e9ricain de la Californie. Selon le chirurgien Charles Bratton, le d\u00e9vouement et le sens du devoir de l\u2019\u00e9quipe de transplantation lui ont permis de r\u00e9ussir \u00e0 transformer des milliers de vies, dont celle de la famille Coyt.<\/p>\n

L\u2019\u00e9quipe merveilleuse et passionn\u00e9e a permis \u00e0 Kimberly Coyt, 28\u00a0ans, de vaincre la n\u00e9phropathie g\u00e9n\u00e9tique gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 une greffe. Dans les ann\u00e9es\u00a01990, sa m\u00e8re, Alejandra, s\u2019\u00e9tait tenue aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s du p\u00e8re de Kimberly, qui avait aussi vaincu la n\u00e9phropathie. Des ann\u00e9es plus tard, Alejandra a reconnu des sympt\u00f4mes semblables chez le fr\u00e8re de Kimberly, Oscar, lorsqu\u2019il avait 21\u00a0ans. Il a presque imm\u00e9diatement \u00e9t\u00e9 mis sous dialyse et on lui a annonc\u00e9 qu\u2019il avait besoin d\u2019un nouveau rein.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0J\u2019ai tout de suite dit que je lui donnerais l\u2019un des miens. \u201cPrenez-le, il en a besoin\u201d, avait dit Kimberly. Puis les docteurs m\u2019ont dit que ce pourrait \u00eatre g\u00e9n\u00e9tique et que je devais passer des tests.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

Environ deux semaines apr\u00e8s le d\u00e9but de la dialyse d\u2019Oscar, Kimberly, qui avait alors 24\u00a0ans, a, elle aussi, re\u00e7u le diagnostic de n\u00e9phropathie. Avec l\u2019aide de leur grande famille attentionn\u00e9e, tout le monde a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 se faire tester pour donner un rein \u00e0 Kimberly et \u00e0 Oscar. Un an plus tard, Alejandra a pu donner l\u2019un de ses reins \u00e0 Oscar.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Mes v\u0153ux d\u2019anniversaire \u00e9taient qu\u2019Oscar trouve un rein. Lorsqu\u2019il en a obtenu un, j\u2019ai enfin commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 esp\u00e9rer pour moi-m\u00eame\u00a0\u00bb, a dit Kimberly.<\/p>\n

Par essai et erreur, Kimberly a \u00e9t\u00e9 sous dialyse p\u00e9riton\u00e9ale pendant deux ans et huit mois pendant que sa famille continuait de chercher un rein compatible.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Au d\u00e9but, la dialyse n\u2019\u00e9tait qu\u2019un d\u00e9sagr\u00e9ment, parce que je n\u2019ai commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 \u00eatre malade qu\u2019\u00e0 la moiti\u00e9 du processus. Mais m\u00eame s\u2019il a fallu du temps pour trouver une compatibilit\u00e9, je n\u2019ai pas d\u00e9sesp\u00e9r\u00e9. Je voulais simplement savoir quand \u00e7a allait se terminer\u00a0\u00bb, a expliqu\u00e9 Kimberly.<\/p>\n

Puis en 2022, quatre ans apr\u00e8s son diagnostic, on a d\u00e9couvert que l\u2019un des oncles de Kimberly \u00e9tait compatible avec elle. Alors, le 1er<\/sup>\u00a0ao\u00fbt 2022, Kimberly a pu recevoir son rein. Prenant toujours le temps de se r\u00e9tablir, elle est impatiente d\u2019explorer le monde \u00e0 nouveau, apr\u00e8s avoir mis plusieurs de ses activit\u00e9s habituelles sur pause pendant pr\u00e8s de trois ans.<\/p>\n

Mais en d\u00e9pit de son traitement, en 2020, Kimberly a obtenu un dipl\u00f4me de baccalaur\u00e9at en psychologie de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de l\u2019\u00c9tat de la Californie, \u00e0 San Bernardino. Apr\u00e8s avoir v\u00e9cu \u00e0 l\u2019h\u00f4pital, elle souhaite trouver un emploi dans le milieu hospitalier ou m\u00e9dical.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Ma famille et mon copain ont \u00e9t\u00e9 le plus grand syst\u00e8me de soutien, a dit Kimberly. Je regrette que mon fr\u00e8re et moi ayons tous les deux \u00e9t\u00e9 malades, mais je suis reconnaissante du fait qu\u2019aucun d\u2019entre nous n\u2019ait d\u00fb traverser seul cette \u00e9preuve.\u00a0\u00bb <\/span><\/p>\n
