Hundreds of Adventist youth throughout the territory of Inter-America have been participating in a contest on the Book of Daniel since last summer.  The 15 finalists representing the 15 regions of the Division will get to compete at Colombia Adventist University in Colombia on November 13 for the grand prize, an all expenses paid trip to the General Conference Session in St. Louis, Missouri, United States, as a delegate. Other prizes include a one-year grant to study at Montemorelos University in Mexico, as well as a collection of the Bible Commentary.

The idea was borne by the Youth leadership of the church to bring young people, ages 15 to 30, closer in the study of the Scriptures through a contest that would allow them to join together in a systematic study of the fundamentals of their faith, according to Bernardo Rodriguez, youth director for the church in Inter-America.

“We are very excited for the youth,” says Rodriguez, who recently returned from leading the semi-finals in Colombia. “This is the first time we hold a Division-wide contest and our youth have been so excited to study Daniel and Prophecy.”

The contest began throughout individual churches in the Division on July 3. Once the winner from each church was declared, that contestant moved on to the next round of questions to compete against the winners from all churches in each conference, or mission. The winner from each conference advanced to the next round of questions, the outcome of which resulted in the 15 finalists from each union in the territory.

During the final phase on November 13, each finalist will have to answer questions on a computer terminal connected to a network which will reveal their answers instantly on a large screen. Questions will be available in all Inter-America’s three main languages: English, Spanish, and French. Whoever answers the most questions in the least time will win the grand prize.

Rodriguez, who has been tight-lipped about the final questions of the contest, says the contest promises to inspire young people to study the Bible. He adds that plans are to transmit the contest live on the internet on Sabbath afternoon, November 13.
