Every year the staff of the Inter-American Division headquarters participates in a Christmas project to benefit a needy church organization in one of the Division’s 15 unions, or regions.

The money donated for last year’s project will help build restrooms and install drinking fountains at Gran Sabana Adventist Academy. The academy is located in the indigenous area of La Gran Sabana in the city of Bolivar on the border of Venezuela and Brazil.

Pastor Ivan OmaZa, Ministerial Association Secretary for the church in the IAD, and this year’s project coordinator, says this project will provide students and faculty staff with new facilities closer to the classrooms. He adds that the project, submitted by the Venezuela Antilles Union, will cost an estimated US $10,000.

As of the end of December 2004, total donations toward the project reached more than US $4,500. This amount is sufficient to allow construction of these facilities to begin immediately.

Surrounded by the natural wonders of vegetation, fauna and springs, the Colegio Gran Sabana (Gran Sabana Academy) has been operating since 1979 and offers secondary level to 200 dormitory and non-dormitory students, and boast a 24-member faculty.

For information on sending donations for this project or other projects, please contact the IAD’s Treasury department at 305.403.4700.
