Caracas, Venezuela…[Emilet Poloche/IAD Staff]
Recently the Seventh-day “Adventist Church in Central Venezuela sponsored its first ever two-day training session for church members throughout the region who are interested in writing and composing Christian music. Thirty-two young Adventists traveled on Jan. 13 to El Paraiso Adventist Church in Caracas, where Church leaders and music professors offered the opportunity to get involved in the music ministry.
With the theme “I Praise You with my Heart”, all participants were given the opportunity to form groups and work on composing praise music, study about the origin of the Psalms, and music theory, among others.
Participants had the opportunity to discuss issues involving the church music and what is appropriate in the church, and differences between Adventists and evangelical music.
They also discussed organizing a music composition ministry in the union that could benefit the church and the challenges it could face such as illegal reproduction and distribution of Christian music, among other things.
Part of the Sabbath afternoon activities included a concert by each participant with unedited music, putting into practice what they had learned.
