United States officials in Puerto Rico honored Pastor Miguel Ramos, president of the church in Puerto Rico, for his contribution to the development of the community in the island in a special ceremony on Jan. 31, 2006. The special event brought together church leaders, members, faculty and students to the Antillian Adventist University auditorium where the event took place.

Anibal Heredia, Assistant to the Residential Commissioner of Puerto Rico for Washington, who coordinated the ceremony, presented a special sculpture symbolizing the family for Pastor Ramos’ contribution to the well-being of the family in the community.

Senators Carlos Pagan and Luis Daniel Muñíz presented him with official proclamations from the Senate, as well as proclamation from Representative Jose L. Rivera Guerra for Pastor Ramos’ contribution as a citizen and as a church leader more than 30 years. The mayor of the city of Mayaguez was also present at the event.

Church leaders were delighted to host the event at the Adventist university when prompted by the office of the residential commissioner, says Pastor Oreste Natera, communication director for the church in Puerto Rico. He spoke on behalf of the church in favor of Pastor Ramos’ dedicated service to the mission of the church.

Pastor Miguel Ramos, who has been undergoing treatment for illness, has served as president for the church in Puerto Rico since 2000, and was recently re-elected as president for another term.
