Bella Vista Hospital, a Seventh-day Adventist facility in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, announced the construction of its cancer facility at a ground breaking ceremony on Mar. 14. The Bella Vista Cancer Institute will provide services and ambulatory treatments to cancer patients.

According to Jesus Nieves, executive director of the hospital, the project represents an investment of more than $5 million dollars.

The 8,600-square feet facility will be equipped with waiting rooms, a simulator area, procedure rooms, two treatment rooms, medical offices, an administrative area, information systems area and a conference room. It will have the capacity to treat approximately 50 patients a day. Plans are for the center to be completed by February 2007.

“With the establishment of Bella Vista Cancer Institute, we reaffirm once again our commitment to offer day by day the highest level of services in healthcare to all of our patients,” says Nieves.

Established in 1954, Bella Vista Hospital is operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church has provided more than 50 years of service to the community with a committed mission to restore the physical, as well as mental and spiritual health of its patients. The hospital has 155 beds.
