Belize City, Belize…[ADRA International/IAD]
Dozens of orphanages and medical facilities in Belize were the beneficiaries of medical supplies, including equipment and cancer medicines donated by the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), on Mar. 28. Part of the donated items were given by employees of the Adventist World Church headquarters, who gathered gifts for orphans and those suffering from medical diseases in the small Central American country.
The donated supplies, valued at more than US $350,000, were shipped Belize a few weeks before, thanks to donations from ADRA International and ADRA Inter-America. The supplies were then distributed by the Seventh-day Adventist Church office in Belize amidst government representatives and representatives from private orphanages and non-government medical facilities.
James Lanning from ADRA International, who coordinated efforts for the shipment, arrived at Belize with a group of volunteers to do some local projects and helped in the distribution of the goods.
Wally Amundson, ADRA director for Inter-America, was present for the discharge of supplies and spoke to those present about ADRA’s work.
“This initiative from ADRA is an example of what we can accomplish together when we work as a team especially with those within the community which are faced with difficult situation,” said Amundson.
Pastor Earnal Scott, president of the church in Belize, along with Nesamony Prakasam, M.D., or Dr. Ranju as she is known, health ministries and ADRA-Belize director, made arrangements with local authorities to house the supplies in a vocational school in the capital city.
