The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Puerto Rico elected a new president on Aug. 1, 2006. Pastor Jose A. Rodriguez was chosen to lead the 36,000 church members on this island, just days after former president Pastor Miguel Ramos died from an illness.

Pastor Rodriguez, who held the offices of youth director and chaplain ministries director at the local church headquarters before the election, was joined by Pastor Efren Pagan and Ruben Perez, who were re-elected as executive secretary and treasurer, respectively.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Puerto Rico operates more than 284 churches, a university, hospital, clinic, and several schools.
