Montrouis, Haiti…[IAD Staff]
Far from the hectic capital city of Port-au-Prince in Haiti, more than 550 Adventist youth leaders met for a special event to boost spiritually, participate in a number of youth activities and relax under the sun. The event, which was held at the Club Indigo in Montrouis two hours' drive from Port-au-Prince, took place Aug. 24-30.
Under Inter-America’s Youth Ministries theme this year of “Obsessed with Jesus”, youth leaders pledged to build a closer relationship with Jesus and share Him throughout their local churches.
Pastor Hiskiah Missah, youth ministries associate director of the Adventist World Church, challenged the young people to work for the salvation of other young people and to be committed to serving their communities.
Pastors Bernardo Rodriguez, youth ministries director, and Balvin Braham, associate youth director for the church in Inter-America, were also at the event to encourage young people to become obsessed with Jesus always and to be conquerors for Christ everywhere.
During the four-day event, there were 315 investitures and several marches.
Youth leaders from throughout the church in Haiti were excited to meet for the youth leadership congress–the first congress held since 1999, says Pierre Caporal, youth ministries director for the church in Haiti.
“The congress went well, many youth leaders and young people expressed their appreciation for the programs,” says Pastor Caporal. He adds that young people participated in several prayer sessions and seminars and also worked together in cleaning hotel rooms at Club Indigo which had been closed for several years and prepare these to be reopened.
This brought much appreciation to Mrs. Dominique Richez, manager of the privately owned Club Indigo who was thankful to the organizers and Seventh-day Adventist Church “whose youth,” she expressed “represents the last rampart of young people in Haiti’s troubled society.”
