Montemorelos University reached another milestone as it graduated the first generation of dentists and electronic and telecommunication engineers during last weekend's graduation ceremonies, May 29-31, 2009. The university is owned and operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church's Inter-American Division (IAD), and situated in Montemorelos, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
The university's dentistry program more than 10 years in the making to complete, and the electronic and telecommunication program took five years to realize.
“These new careers mean that institution is aware of the vocational needs of the Adventist youth and we have opened more the avenues for service,” says Ismael Castillo, president of Montemorelos University.
As a learning institution known for its strong medical program, the new dentistry degree represents a significant accomplishment for Montemorelos University, say top church leaders, as it is the first Adventist school to offer it.
Twenty students graduated from the dentistry program and 16 from the electronic and telecommunication engineering program. The students began their studies in 2004.
“Montemorelos University is not only a wonderful institution which serves Mexico, but it also impacts the entire IAD territory and other divisions by preparing professional men and women to serve the world,” says Moises Velazquez, education director for the church in Inter-America.
Velazquez, who recently traveled to the university, says the institution very recently received a grade B-the highest granted Adventist Accrediting Association. “Montemorelos University is along side quality Adventist institutions worldwide like Loma Linda University, Andrews University and others,” he adds.
In addition to the two new degrees, Montemorelos University offers 35 undergraduate degrees and several doctorate degrees. Castillo says that plans are underway to add new programs in international business, physical therapy, food technology and chemical pharmacology, as well as a doctorate degree in management.
