Day three of Inter-America's Teacher's Congress brought several spiritual messages, dozens of seminars and the recognition of a group of individuals who have served in education, promoted quality of teaching and have financially supported Adventist education.

“The Inter-American Division wants to honor some individuals who have contributed to the Adventist Christian Education in our territory,” said Dr. Elie Henry, vice president for the church in Inter-America, as he spoke to the audience. “Some have served in schools, have served in administration and supported the church's educational system for 15 or more years and so our Division voted to grant the Ellen G. White Medal of Merit in Education.”

Nineteen individuals received the Ellen G. White Medal of Merit in Education:

Dr. Pedro Farfan Acosta, from the North Mexican Union

Dr. Jaime Castrejon of the Inter-American Division

Dr. Vernon E. Andrews of the Caribbean Union

Marino Contreras of the Dominican Union

Dr. Loron Wade of the Montemorelos University

Pastor Francisco Flores Chable of the Montemorelos University

Marie-Lucienne Joseph-Reinette of French Antilles Union

Jose Alonso Armenta Leyva of Navojoa University

Esther Dias S. de Guerrero of Cuban Union

Daniel Sinza of the Colombia University

Maria Luisa Vallejos of the South Central American Union

Maria Cruz of the Antillian Adventist University

Dr. Dennis Soto, philanthropist of Puerto Rico

Evelyn Luciano of the Inter-American Division

Almeda R. Liedke of the Inter-American Division

Pastor Cesario Acevedo of the Dominican Union

Dr. Eugene Daniel of the Caribbean Union

Pastor David Javier of the South Mexican Union

In addition, leaders and teachers who have dedicated their life to education were honored with Inter-America's Educational Merit Award: Dr. Gabriel Camacho, Dr. Edgar Brito, Dr. Araceli Vazquez, Dr. Feliberto Martinez, Pastor Jean Josue Pierre, Orley Sanchez Jimenez, Dr. Raul Lozano, Rolando Vega Jimenez, Dr. jauan Alberto Diaz, Rene Perez, Iris Rojas de Hermandez, Javier Villegas, Alcibiades Manrique, Saint Louis Pierre, Pastor Maurice Roseau, Freddy Torres Hernandez, Alejandra Casillas, Dr. Miriam Hernandez, Javier Castrellon, Francisco Hernandez, Dr. Sandra Gayle, pastor Leslie Gillett, Dr. Herminia Perla, and Pastor Wilfredo Ruiz.

“We were delighted to create these two new awards for dedicated individuals in our Division,” commented Dr. Moises Velazquez, education director for the church in Inter-America. “These individuals were chosen because of their ceaseless commitment in the important work of Adventist education in our Division territory.”

Special expositions included a presentation by Dr. Floyd Greenleaf , Adventist author, who spoke on the meaning of educational identity; Dr. Elissa Kido of La Sierra University on the study of Cognitive Genesis. Spiritual messages from Pastor David Javier president of the church in South Mexico and Pastor Derek Bignall, president of the church in the West Indies.

The teacher's congress is scheduled to conclude later today.
