Thousands flocked to the Exhibition Hall at the Georgia World Congress Center yesterday, the first Sabbath of the 10-day General Conference Session in Atlanta, Georgia.

Featured at the Inter-American Division booth were two unions, the Dominican Republic and North Mexico. They offered musical performances and souvenirs which attracted hundreds.

With nearly 300,000 members, the Adventist Church in the Dominican Republic operates several institutions and six regional fields.

“We are a warm, happy, God-fearing people on our island,” said Pastor Cesario Acevedo, president of the church in the Dominican Republic. “Our church is growing strong because of the united efforts of our pastors and laypeople.”

Last year over 17,000 people were baptized, said Acevedo.

According to Acevedo, the newest hospital operated by the union is providing an excellent service to the community in the capital city of Santo Domingo.

The church also operates some 618 churches and congregations, several radio stations and dozens of schools.

The North Mexican Union also drew hundreds of visitors with their colorful and folkloric decorations. Visitors lined up to pose for a picture dressed up with a traditional hat and scarf.

Covering a wide territory, the North Mexican Union boasts more than 122,000 church members.

“We have a great challenge because our territory has 14 of the 31 states which make up Mexico,” said Pastor Abner De Los Santos, president of the church in North Mexico. “But with the great challenge to reach millions in our territory, our leaders and members are working hard in evangelizing our territory, thus hastening the Second Coming of Jesus.”

The church in North Mexico operates 517 churches and congregations and dozens of schools.
