More than 300 Seventh-day Adventist church leaders from throughout Inter-America gathered last night in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic to pray and worship together as they committed to be actively involved in what promises to be the most comprehensive spiritual revival program to take place throughout the vast division-wide territory.
Coined as the “Constant in Prayer” initiative, a call to Inter-American church leaders and members to seek personal spiritual revival through constant prayer and the study of the Word, top leaders shared the vision hours before the church officially launches its revival and reformation plan via satellite.
“Our Constant in Prayer program is part of the call that Adventist World Church has done for revival and reformation,” said Pastor Israel Leito, president of the church in Inter-America as he addressed the leaders. “We have seen great things blessed by the Lord but we have yet to see what more the Lord can do.”
The initiative will seek to involve the more than 3 million church members through a 160-day journey of prayer for specific needs for each church territory spread out in the 33 countries in Inter-America.
“Brethren, we are very serious about revival and reformation in our Division,” said Pastor Leito as he pointed out the different activities and resources on the subject available to the church in the coming days, weeks and months.
“The Lord is inviting you to take this revival seriously through prayer and the study of the Word,” emphasized Pastor Leito. “The Lord is making a serious call for revival and we must be ready for this revival.”
Leaders participated in sessions of prayer and the reading of the Bible before Pastor Ted N.C. Wilson, president of the Adventist World Church addressed them on his vision for a revived church.
“There have been calls for reformation, consecrated leaders of God have earnestly seeking reformation,” said Pastor Wilson “We ask that question why we are here. You look around the world and see what is happening in the natural world, political situation, fragile economic setting, things are not going to get much better. We know Jesus is coming soon.”
Pastor Wilson challenged leaders to hold fast to the Word of God. “Take the Bible and let it speak to God’s people and God’s power will be poured out as we feed people with the Word of God, including the beautiful truth of the gift of prophecy.”
Pastor Wilson also urged Inter-American leaders to read, teach and promote the Spirit of Prophecy daily alongside the Scriptures.
“My earnest plea for you is that we humble ourselves before God, we seek His face as we pray to Him…for revival will only come in answer to prayer,” Pastor Wilson concluded before he and his wife Nancy led the hundreds of leaders in a special session of prayer for revival.
Inter-American leaders will continue to meet during the next few days in the Dominican Republic during a special revival and reformation leadership conference.
