Wearing white T-shirts which read “Praying for You”, more than 2,000 young Seventh-day Adventists took to the streets of Medellin to offer prayer for motorists and onlookers during a special day of activities on Mar. 12, 2011.

The activity was organized to promote awareness for a constant connection to God through prayer, said Pastor Walter Ramos, youth ministries director for the church in North Colombia who led the event. “We wanted to pray not only for ourselves but to pray for those in need of Christ.”

It was the kind of program which had church leaders and members participating in the Constant in Prayer initiative-a call to all members throughout Inter-America to seek personal spiritual revival through constant prayer and study of the Bible.

The groups of young people also gathered at several locations in front of shopping malls, supermarkets, and parks and all over key points in high traffic streets displaying signs which read, “At 100 meters we can pray for you”, “we pray for your health,” “we pray for your studies,” “we pray for your family,” and “it only takes one minute.”

Brainer Herrera was among the motorists who stopped for prayer. As he sat in his motorcycle he was grateful for the oppportunity. “I think it is so wonderful to encourage people to pray,” said Herrera. “This is what the world needs today with all that is happening.”

As the afternoon turned into evening, young people gathered at the Adventist University in Medellin to worship and share experiences of the day.

“This has experience has really impressed me because it was clear that there is a world in need out there, and that we have young people willing to work for God,” said Walter Ramos.

Nine-year old Pablo Esteban described it as a beautiful experience. “I am so happy because I was able to pray and tell people how good the Lord is and invite them to my church,” he added.

Pastor Edgar Redondo, president of the church in the North Colombia praised the work of the youth leaders and young people for the special outreach and emphasized on the wonderful privilege of praying for others around us.

Young people were called upon to continue strengthening their spiritual life through the study of the Bible and prayerful life.
