More than 6,000 students and teachers participated in a special day of prayer and worship in schools and parks throughout El Salvador on April 26. The day was part of the “Constant In Prayer” initiative launched this year in the Inter-American Division (IAD). The initiative seeks to inspire spiritual revival through constant prayer and study of the Bible.
“During the entire month of April, all of our schools, classrooms and homes were impacted by prayer,” said Xenia Burgos, education director for the church in El Salvador. In the weeks leading up to the special day of prayer, weeks of prayer were held for students and parents to daily engage in taking their concerns, joys and requests to the throne of God, explained Burgos.
Early in the morning at Santa Ana Adventist school, students and teachers shared testimonies of answered prayers, prayed together and praised God in song during the day.
In San Juan Opico, students and teachers from ECAS, El Salvador’s largest Adventist school with over 750 students, gathered at the city park to put on a program of music and prayer. In attendance were the mayor of San Juan Opico, city officials, and the chief of police. At the mayor’s request, church leaders and school officials prayed for peace and safety, as well as for city authorities, students, parents and the community at large.
As the day closed with prayer, students distributed magazines throughout the streets and prayed for people.
More than 500 students from the Adventist school in Quezaltepeque presented drama and musical performances at the city’s main park. Prayers for the city, its leaders and citizens were offered. Bibles and magazines were distributed as students prayed for onlookers.
