For the past six months, church administrators, pastors, teachers and members throughout the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Inter-American Division (IAD) territory have been participating in a comprehensive spiritual revival and reformation initiative. The first phase of the three-phase initiative, called “Constant in Prayer,” seeks to bring about revival through constant prayer and bible study. Launched in February, dozens of Constant in prayer activities have been promoted throughout the territory.

On July 23, 2011, top church leaders will launch the second phase during a special program from San Salvador, El Salvador. Called “Heeding the Word”, phase two will focus on the study and teaching of the bible and Spirit of Prophecy throughout the church in the IAD. Spirit of Prophecy is the name given to the prophetic ministry and teachings of Ellen G. White-a co-founder of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

The program will be streamed live on the internet from Centro Internacional de Ferias y Convenciones in San Salvador. Hundreds of church leaders from all 21 regions or unions in the IAD will be in attendance.

“Our main objective for the initiative is to guide leaders and members to make a commitment before God to promote, in season and out of season, the study and teaching of the Holy Scriptures and the Spirit of Prophecy in all our churches and institutions,” says Pastor Roberto Herrera, coordinator for revival and reformation for the church in Inter-America.

As part of the launch, church leaders will participate in a two-day bible conference that will focus on a solid theological foundation on the Adventist position on the Word of God and the Spirit of Prophecy. Speakers from the church’s Biblical Research Institute will present a series of seminars during the conference.

The activity will provide a model for the program to be repeated in each local church and congregation, adds Herrera.

According to Herrera, a number of division-wide activities are scheduled to take place in the coming weeks and months before the third phase of the comprehensive initiative is launched at the end of February 2012. Constant in Prayer programs will remain in place after the Heeding the Word initiative is launched.
