The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) in Mexico continues to assist hundreds of families affected by the earthquakes which struck several states in September, toppling buildings, killing dozens, destroying homes and leaving many homeless.

ADRA Mexico will have assisted some 13,000 people who distributed food baskets in dozens of communities in the States of Morelos, Puebla and Mexico City, at the end of this month, according to César Hernández, ADRA Mexico director.

Several offices of the ADRA network such as ADRA International, ADRA Inter-America, ADRA South America, ADRA Luxembourg, ADRA Australia and ADRA France have provided funds in the aftermath of the recent earthquakes, he added.

“The assistance has been possible thanks to hundreds of church member volunteers, led by local ADRA coordinators, who have assembled the goods and delivered the food to the thousands still struggling to rebuild their lives,” said Hernández.

In addition, ADRA Mexico has been distributing roof sheets in Morelos and Puebla to 1,000 families throughout the course of the last month and a half in coordination with local government authorities, Hernández added. Portable gas stoves were also distributed in Puebla.

In Mexico City, ADRA Mexico is working with SEDESOL, the local government entity in charge of disaster response, for the distribution of vouchers for families in the most affected communities because of the complexity of distributing roof sheetis in the capital city, Hernández explained. That distribution should take place before the end of the year, he added.
