Seventh-day Adventist World Church President Pastor Ted N.C. Wilson and wife Nancy were greeted by church leaders in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, during a special welcome at the Toussaint Louverture International Airport’s diplomatic lounge earlier today. The Adventist world leader was joined by top Inter-American Division (IAD) administrators and local church leaders for a four-day stay on the island nation.
“The Church in Haiti has been waiting to welcome you back and wants to hear your message,” said Pastor Pierre Caporal, president of the church in Haiti, as he welcomed pastor Wilson and the IAD delegation. “This is a historic moment to have so many from the top church leadership throughout Inter-America visit us.”
Pastor Wilson spoke to the leaders and the press that his visit will include celebrating the power and glory of God through the work of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and its committed members.
“It is a privilege to be in a country full of people really faithful and full of zeal for Christ,” said Pastor Wilson. “This is an exceptional church, a land of courage.” Pastor Wilson said that his visit will include a message of hope in Jesus to encourage all to actively serve others in the community not only physically and mentally, but spiritually as well.
Wilson’s appeal to members will also include active involvement in the mission of the church, spreading the good news of salvation and preparing a people for the second coming of Jesus.
On his third visit to Haiti as world church president, Wilson said he hopes to visit the church’s educational institutions and health-care facilities, a special project in coordination with the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Haiti, as well as be part of a festival to worship God together.
Pastor Wilson will make a visit to one of the largest churches in the capital city tomorrow, witness evangelism growth, take part in an official installation of IAD’s newly elected administrators and join Inter-America’s second annual business meetings commencing on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2018.
Quoting a Bible verse found in Joel 2:21: “Fear not, Oh land be glad and rejoice,” Pastor Wilson encouraged that God will do great things for the people in Haiti and prayed for the people, church leaders and journalists.
Pastor Elie Henry, president of the church in Inter-America and native of Haiti, told the press that he was happy to be back home and overjoyed that the Inter-American Division had chosen to hold its Year-End Executive Meetings in Port-au-Prince.
“We want to let everyone in Haiti know that the Seventh-day Adventist Church is well implanted in the community not only in Haiti but worldwide, too,” said Pastor Henry.
Pastor Henry told the press that the visit will include lifting up prayers for the country, for unity and more togetherness. “We are not a small country forgotten,” he said. “God takes care of us and has great plans for us as a country.”
Top administrators and leaders from the IAD’s 24 major church regions, or unions, who are members of the IAD Executive Committee will vote on church expansion plans, evangelism initiatives, policies and activities to take place across the territory during the next two years.
