The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Inter-America, through its Special Needs Ministries, will hold a territory-wide congress June 26-29, 2019, in Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico. The four-day event will focus on cultivating new attitudes of inclusion and celebrating the gifts of persons with disabilities.
Dozens of persons with special needs, special needs ministries directors, pastors, educators, and administrators from union, conferences and missions will attend the meetings.
“We want to take the time to evaluate the needs and challenges of persons with disabilities in our [Adventist] churches and surrounding communities,” said Pastor Samuel Telemaque, special needs ministries director for the church in Inter-America and main organizer of the congress. “It’s important for every delegate to be involved in critical thinking on the appropriate interventions to help persons with disabilities where they are.”
The congress will deal with the complexity of verbal languages, non-verbal languages, different disabilities, logistical issues, dietary preferences and much more.
“Special needs ministries gives wholeness to human existence,” said Telemaque. “The routine and mundane are making us more broken, and special needs ministries transition us from the mundane to a new level of complexity and wholeness in Christ.”
Experts and speakers from the Adventist World Church and from throughout the Inter-American Division will be presenting during general sessions and seminars at the congress.
