Thousands of pastors and their families throughout the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Inter-American Division (IAD) will have to opportunity to pause to worship and pray together during this year’s annual week of prayer from January 29 to February 2, 2024.

The online event seeks to inspire pastors, their spouses, and children to study the Word of God and pray together, gain spiritual strength, serve the church, and spread the gospel in their communities.

“We want our pastoral families to grow in faith and be able to continue motivating their congregations, to be clear about the mission as disciples of Jesus even as they face challenges and crises,” said Pastor Josney Rodríguez, ministerial association secretary of the IAD.

Themed “Growing in Faith”, the hour-long evening programs will also seek to reassure pastoral families that they are not alone as they shepherd their congregations and remind them that God is with them every step of the way in their important ministry, said Rodríguez.

“The main challenge pastors face today is reconnecting the church with God, mainly young people, and the new generations. That means they must transmit a message adapted to and relevant to this time,” he added. It’s not about just having, knowing, and sharing that truth of the gospel with congregants, said Rodríguez, but helping members and especially young people understand that the church not only belongs to their parents but to them as well. “They [young people] can grow in faith too and take part in becoming strong disciples and remain engaged in spreading the gospel to their peers and everyone they come in contact with.”

Pastor Pavel Goia, General Conference’s Ministerial Association editor of Ministry Magazine, will be the keynote speaker.  IAD’s Ministerial Association and Family ministries will host the special pastoral family week of prayer to the more than 3,700 who oversee congregations in local church districts.

The week of prayer kicks off the first of five weeks of initiatives and activities geared toward preparing the family to grow in faith during Inter-America’s “All the Family in Mission” initiative this year.
