Thousands of Seventh-day Adventists in Mexico have joined together for months to share the gospel in their communities in preparation for an online evangelistic campaign that will launch from Mexico City on June 17, 2023. The one-week series becomes the third annual national online evangelistic campaign that the church’s five unions, or major regions have organized. Pastors and church leaders hope the campaign will yield thousands of new church members.

Themed “Don’t Give Up, There is Still Hope,” the eight-day series will feature keynote speaker Pastor Daniel Torreblanca, youth ministries director of the Chiapas Mexican Union, who will encourage viewers to navigate through fear, doubt and uncertainty with the help of their faith in Jesus. The nightly one-hour programs, which will begin at 7:30 p.m. Central Mexico time (9:30 p.m. Miami time) will be held from the Central Adventist Church in Mexico City. More than 800 viewers are expected to attend in person.

“We are happy to host this year’s evangelism campaign thanks to the support of the rest of the church in Mexico, in order to attract and reach out to the largest possible population with the message of salvation,” said Pastor Jorge García, executive secretary of the Central Mexican Union.

More than 27,000 homes in Mexico, coined as “Casas de Esperanza”, or “Houses or Centers of Hope”, will transmit the online campaign for neighbors, friends, and family. “Houses of Hope” will provide fellowship among the gatherings, a meal, and an opportunity to connect with the group every evening, church leaders said. In Mexico City and its metropolitan region alone nearly 1,000 “Houses of Hope” will transmit the online campaign.

The evangelistic campaign will be transmitted via radio and television. For months, the church has also promoted the campaign on social media.

“This is one of the most important and strategic evangelism campaigns among the five unions in Mexico,” said Pastor Ignacio Navarro, president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s administrative office in Mexico, which represents all five unions. “Mexico City is one of the greatest challenges not only for the church in Mexico and the Inter-American Division, but for the world church as well.” To overcome great challenges there needs to be great efforts, added Navarro.

With over 24 million people living in Mexico City, evangelism needs to be very intentional, he said.  “This [evangelism campaign] needs to be a task for the entire church in this country, reaching the millions of people in such a large city,” said Navarro.

Navarro, who is also the president of the Chiapas Mexican Union, said that the church in Chiapas has committed to supporting the Central Mexican Union by sending dozens of health and medical professionals to hold medical brigades and health expos in Mexico City earlier this year. In addition, 50 pastors from Chiapas held evangelism campaigns throughout the city and sent two church employees to live in Mexico City and work with digital evangelism support for three years.

Elsewhere in Mexico, churches have engaged in comprehensive evangelism efforts and outreach activities since October of 2022. Thousands of Adventists took part in a massive distribution of “The Great Controversy”, a book by Ellen G. White detailing the history of the Christian church from the ascension of Christ to the present day and beyond, throughout Mexico City and the country on Mar. 18, 2023. The book is also available in digital format.
