Trelawny, Jamaica…[Wellesley Gunter/IAD]
The North Jamaica Mission Adventist-layperson’s Services and Industries (ASI) Chapter held its second annual convention April 21, 2007 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Falmouth, Trelawny, in Jamaica. More than 400 people attended the event.
The convention included the election of new officers and board of director members to head the ASI Chapter for the next two years. Judy Morgan was re-elected as president, Hazel Watkis-Wisdom as general vice president, Windel Luke and Keith chin as vice presidents, Wellesley Gunter re-elected as secretary/treasurer, Christine Shand as associate secretary/treasurer, and Kaye McIntosh as public relations officer. Board members also elected Wentworth Kelly, Debbie-Ann Samuels, Dorothy Warmington, and Karl Archer.
Pastor Patrick L. Allen, president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the West Indies region was the guest speaker for the event. He strongly emphasized the need for church members to go back to the Bible, because many do not know or understand the fundamental doctrines.
Other highlights of the event included musical concert and the secretary’s report.
The North Jamaica Mission ASI Chapter report revealed that during the past four years:
• ASI contribution to evangelism led to at least 48 persons being baptized.
• A Basic English Class was conducted in which approximately 20 adults learned to read and write.
• Many needy persons in church and community were given food and housing assistance after Hurricane Ivan.
• In collaboration with HEART Trust/NTA over 120 persons received NCTVET Certification which is recognized globally. The recipients can find employment anywhere in the world.
