The recently organized Central Mexican Union in Mexico City, Mexico, was inaugurated November 23. Hundreds of Seventh-day Adventist leaders, church members, and government officials were in attendance for the special ceremony.

Pastor Israel Leito, president of the church in Inter-America, along with Luis Enrique Perez, administrative coordinator of the labor secretary, and Jose Arturo Mejia, sub-director of religions associations of the government secretary, cut the inaugural ribbon. Other commemorative plaques were unveiled as well.

Organizing a new union there was vital, said Pastor Leito.

“Mexico City was part of the North Mexican Union, but we felt it needed to be singled out and dedicated extra attention,” he added.

The Central Mexican Union is now comprised of four church regions. Its task will be to supervise these fields and “to conquer Mexico City and fill the city with the gospel,” he added.

The church represents “a blessing to our society and the desire for it to be a place where every person can find help in their need,” said Pastor. He added that the new offices should always be open to “the poor, the barefoot, and to every kind of person and that the neighboring buildings should always be blessed by the Adventist presence.”

“The Adventist Church is a church that is always willing to serve the community when there is need or a disaster,” added Luis Enrique Perez.

Located on one of the busiest avenues of a city bursting with more than 20 million people, the Central Mexican Union's new four-story building features several conference rooms, offices, and a cafeteria, as well as a warehouse.

The new Central Mexican Union, which is the 17th church region in Inter-America, has more than 64,000 members and operates 372 churches and congregations, 14 schools and one hospital.
