North Colombia: Church shares creation story through main streets

During a recent outreach activity, Seventh-day Adventists in the city of Cucuta in northeast Colombia took to the main streets of the city to highlight the biblical story of creation and the Sabbath as a day of rest.

Designated as the Creation Caravan, church members of the nine districts comprising the church in Cucuta, bordering Venezuela, displayed floats on June 7. Each float featured a day of creation.

Many wore their colorful t-shirts with the message “Sabbath is my day” as they walked and rode dozens of motorcycles and vehicles during the two-hour outreach activity.

“Traffic would go at the rhythm of our caravan activity and we could see people’s surprised looks and they began to ask us questions,” said Eliana Pedrozo, a church member in Cucuta.

Hundreds of special flyers were distributed throughout the city that day.

In addition, some 30 bicycles decorated with messages on creation rode through the streets of the neighboring city of La Libertad—one of the most populated cities with 100,000 inhabitants.

Onlookers were invited to meet at the Plaza de Banderas and later to the Libertad Adventist School where an evangelistic series was beginning.

The floats paraded through the town’s main pier the next day on Sunday, June 8, where a special Expo-Creation was held, while church’s radio station La Voz Internacional covered the event.

“Everyone who came by the pier was invited to participate in the Expo-Creation,” said Pastor Raul Torra, communication leader at the northeast Colombia Conference. “Many of them were so impressed when hearing the story of creation, highlighting the Sabbath as the day of hope.”

Church leaders said that the activity was an opportunity for church members throughout the northeast region to come together to testify of the Bible truths in the neighboring Venezuelan city of Ureña and participate in joint district-wide activities.
