The Office of Adventist Volunteer Service (AVS) in the Inter-American Division (IAD) will be holding a live online program to highlight the dedicated work of hundreds of volunteers who are serving around the world. The event comes in as Inter-America celebrates AVS Day under the theme “Dare to Serve” on May 13, 2023, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Miami Time.

“At the end of December 2022, Adventist Volunteer Service closed its platform to give way to the new VIVIDFaith platform that will now be the platform from AVS and all other mission programs will operate,” said Janelle Scantlebury, AVS coordinator for the church in Inter-America.

Even though the IAD has been celebrating AVS Day over the last few years, the emphasis this year will serve to revitalize the work of missions schools in preparing members to serve as long term missionaries, volunteers and VIVIDFriends, explained Scantlebury.

“The emphasis on training is timely as we launch the new VIVIDFaith Platform in Inter-America and extend volunteer service assignments to singles, couples, and retirees,” she said. It’s about everyone having the opportunity to serve and be involved in mission.  “This online event will be like a form of mission refocus launch as we attempt to attract all levels of the church not just the young and the daring,” said Scantlebury.

Nearly 400 volunteers will receive official certificates and AVS pins for completing service in Jamaica during Inter-America’s Pathfinder Camporee last month, she said.

The two-hour event will feature leaders from the General Conference and IAD leaders who will motivate and provide specialized tools to volunteers currently serving outside of the IAD territory and invite other members to take part in the volunteer service organization.

The live online program will also include spiritual messages, testimonials, and certificate and pinning segments. The online transmission will be carried in English, Spanish and French.
