Tools for Sabbath School Teachers

Every Sabbath, thousands of Sabbath School teachers throughout the Inter-American Division have the privilege of opening the Scriptures and sharing the truths of God’s Word with their class members. Their work involves much more than explaining a lesson; it is about helping people know Jesus, strengthen their faith, develop Christlike character, and live according to the principles of God’s kingdom. In Sabbath School, we do not teach merely to inform; we teach to save.

This vision has inspired Sabbath School Alive: Tools for Teachers, a project designed to provide educational and teaching resources that will strengthen the ministry of those who teach and share the Word of the Lord each Sabbath. Its purpose is to help every teacher present the lesson more effectively, awaken the interest of class members, encourage active participation, and foster meaningful learning that extends beyond the classroom and bears fruit for this life and for eternity.

We recognize that effective teaching requires preparation, creativity, spiritual sensitivity, and a deep understanding of learners’ needs. For this reason, Sabbath School Alive will offer practical tools to help teachers introduce the lesson topics, ask thought-provoking questions, use illustrations that enhance understanding, connect biblical truths with everyday experiences, and encourage class members to put what they learn into practice. The goal is not simply to make classes more interesting, but to make every encounter with the Bible an opportunity for spiritual growth and genuine transformation.

As part of this initiative, a short video will be published every Thursday on the Inter-American Division’s social media platforms. These resources will be available so that Sabbath School leaders in each union, conference, and mission can share them with their teachers, helping them prepare for the Sabbath lesson. In this way, we hope to establish an ongoing training process that reaches local churches and strengthens the teaching of the Sabbath School lesson throughout our territory.

Each video will present simple, practical, and easy-to-use tools. We want our teachers to discover new ways to connect biblical truth with daily life, encourage dialogue, awaken an interest in Scripture, and help every class member discover how to put the principles of God’s Word into practice. We aspire to make teaching more participatory, relevant, and transformative—an experience that engages the mind, touches the heart, and moves the hands to serve.

We must never forget, however, that no teaching strategy can replace the work of the Holy Spirit. Educational tools fulfill their true purpose when they are combined with prayer, diligent Bible study, love for class members, and the teacher’s personal commitment to Jesus. The effectiveness of Christian teaching is measured not only by how much is learned during a class, but also by how much of that learning is translated into faith, obedience, love, service, and hope.

We therefore invite Sabbath School directors in our unions, conferences, and missions to promote this project and share the videos with their teachers each week. We also invite every Sabbath School teacher to receive these resources enthusiastically, put them into practice, and continue growing in ministry. Every Sabbath brings a new opportunity to sow the Word of God in the hearts of our class members, walk alongside them in their journey with Christ, and prepare them to fulfill the mission.

It is our prayer that Sabbath School Alive will help strengthen Bible teaching, renew the learning experience, and develop disciples who are committed to Jesus and His mission. May each tool support those who dedicate their time, talents, and hearts to teaching the Scriptures, and may every lesson studied bear lasting fruit in the lives of those who hear it.

Behind every lesson is a life in need of hope, a heart in need of Jesus, and a person for whom He gave His life.
