Hundreds of Adventist young people from throughout the Inter-American Division territory have been competing to be among the top 15 young people representing the 15 regions of the division for a grand prize in the final competition which takes place on December 3.
The competition, a division-wide initiative implemented by its Youth department, has brought hundreds of young people from hundreds of churches to reading and studying the book “Messages to Young People” by Ellen G. White, beginning this summer.
The grand finale will take 15 finalists to the city of Caracas, Venezuela for a weekend event that will include a youth-led worship program.
The competition, which will take place on Sabbath afternoon, Dec. 3,will feature a panel of judges, and each candidate will answer questions on Messages to Young People on a computer and projected to a large screen for audience to view much like the game show “Who Wants to Be A Millionaire.”
“It’s an exciting time for our youth of Inter-America,” says Pastor Bernardo Rodriguez, youth director for the church in Inter-America. “This is our second competition and we want at least 75% of our youth to get involved in the study of the Bible and Spirit of Prophecy.” Last year the youth were excited to participate in reading and studying the Book of Daniel, he adds.
According to Pastor Rodriguez, plans are for the final event to be streamed live through the internet from Venezuela. Prizes will include a full scholarship to Montemorelos University or Northern Caribbean University, as well as paid expenses to the IAD Leadership and Prayer Conference to be held in Miami, in February 2006.
