As centennial celebrations continue throughout the Inter-American Division (IAD) territory, Seventh-day Adventist leaders and members have been preparing to target hundreds of unentered communities with the gospel beginning on July 3, 2022.

The initiative, coined as “Centennial Gospel Caravan,” will include the passing of a torch from the IAD office to the 24 unions across the territory. Each union will be launching outreach activities to impact the residents dozens of new areas within the territory, to address social needs of residents, present a positive image of the church and reinforce the ministries that pioneered Adventism in the IAD, church leaders said.

“The central celebration of the division is not an exercise in which we are patting ourselves on the back because of what we have achieved,” said Pastor Balvin Braham, vice president of the IAD. “This is a program in which we are celebrating what God has done to glorify His own name throughout the entire Division over the last 100 years.” The church has been holding special initiatives and activities since early this year to commemorate the establishment of the IAD in 1922.

The initial plan for the Centennial Gospel Caravan initiative was to reach 100 unentered areas but as efforts doubled across the IAD, regional leaders identified 800 new areas to minister to in the coming weeks, said Braham.  “Some small fields which do not have unentered areas will focus on improving the image of the Adventist Church with impact activities through centers of influence, community centers, health expo outreach, distributing food baskets, providing counseling services, and the like,” he said.

IAD leaders will launch the Centennial Gospel Caravan initiative during an online program on July 3, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. Miami Time, with the passing of the torch to the leadership of the Atlantic Caribbean Union. That “symbolic torch” will then be passed from union to union during the designated evening programs until it reaches Inter-America’s territory-wide Festival of the Laity Event set for Aug. 4-6, 2022.
