Top Seventh-day Adventist leaders at the Inter-American Division (IAD) are searching for a new education director tolead the 21 church regions and supervise the dozens of universities and hundreds of schools in the territory.
“With our strong emphasis on education this new quinquenium, we want to make sure to find the right candidate for the position,” says Pastor Leito, president of the church in Inter-America. Pastor Leito adds that a special search committee was recently appointed to look for a new director.
The position became vacant after IAD delegates elected Dr. Ismael Castillo, president of Montemorelos University, for the job, which he later turned down. The elections took place during the 59th General Conference Session held last month in Atlanta, Georgia.
Dr. Myrna Costa, vice president for thechurch in Inter-America and chairperson of the special seven-member search committee, says that looking for the right fit is a priority.
“We have already notified all our unionand university presidents as well as our union education departments to submit names for the position, so that we can proceed with this process,” says Costa.
The committee will meet early next week to review candidate’s names.
Leaders expect to have the process complete by September and submit their nomination to the IAD Executive Committee at the end of October.
