Delegates to the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s General Conference Session in July won’t hold up yellow cards to vote as they have in past Sessions. Instead, for the first time, Session delegates will vote by pressing a button on an electronic voting device. Votes will be tallied instantly, and final results will be displayed in a bar chart on a screen.
A Seventh-day Adventist Church in New York hosted a service of hope and healing in an effort to quell tensions brought on by weeks of unrest between police and civil rights groups stemming from the deaths of a citizen and two police officers. The Seventh-day Adventist Church has sent condolences to France and praised its government for supporting religious freedom after a terrorist attack on a satirical magazine killed 12 people in Paris. “On behalf of the Seventh-day Adventist world church and its president, allow me to convey to you our deepest sympathy in connection with the terrorist attack on the Charlie Hebdo office in Paris on Jan. 7,” the Church said Thursday in a letter sent by John Graz, director of its public affairs and religious liberty department, to French Ambassador Gérard Araud in Washington.
The Adventist Development Relief Agency is collaborating with a local church in Monrovia, Liberia, to distribute supplies to some 600 Ebola survivors as part of a holiday project, the Daily Observer reported. The Liberian news agency said the distribution of food, chloride and mattresses amounted to approximately $110,000 worth of supplies.

Adventists around the world begin 10 days of prayer on Wednesday for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Seventh-day Adventist Church, a relatively young initiative that takes on special significance this year because of the upcoming General Conference session. Modeled after biblical account of Pentecost, when Jesus’ disciples gathered in an upper room for 10 days to wait and pray for the Holy Spirit, Adventists will meet daily in churches as part of the Ten Days of Prayer program from Jan. 7 to 17. In many countries, the meetings take place in the evening and last an hour.
Scores of Adventist young people visited tens of thousands of homes across Phoenix, Arizona, on Friday as they accepted a challenge from their leader, GYC president Natasha Nebblett, to “rattle the world.” The teens and young adults made the annual outing during a five-day conference of GYC, or “Generation. Youth. Christ,” which is themed “At the Cross” and runs through Jan. 4 at the Phoenix Convention Center.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church’s ministry to the Deaf is gaining traction worldwide with increased coordination to better reach and minister to members of the often-neglected subculture. This year marks the first time that each of the denomination’s 13 world divisions has a designated coordinator for Deaf ministries in their area, a step that was announced at Annual Council in October.

Seventh-day Adventist publishing house managers, publishing directors and bookstore managers from more than 40 countries gathered in Madrid, Spain, from November 5 to 7 to attend a Special Conference on Publishing and New Technologies. The conference, organized by the denomination’s Inter-European Division and the Safeliz Publishing House, was attended by several leaders of the Adventist Church’s General Conference, including President Ted N. C. Wilson, Vice President Delbert Baker and Associate Ministerial Secretary Jonas Arrais.
