As the Seventh-day Adventist Church prepares to celebrate Creation Sabbath on October 26, 2024, congregations across the Inter-American Division (IAD) will join a special live-streamed program that afternoon. This event follows a week of creation-themed activities across hundreds of Adventist school classrooms and auditoriums throughout the IAD.
“Creation Sabbath is an opportunity to pause, reflect on the wonders of life and nature, recognize our place in creation, and express gratitude and reverence toward our Creator,” said Faye Patterson, education director of the IAD and main organizer of the event. “This celebration is aimed at both schools and churches, reminding us of who we are and strengthening our identity as God’s children and stewards of His creation.”
The two-hour event will emphasize the significance of the biblical account of creation, focusing on God’s sovereignty and His purpose in forming the world, added Patterson. “We aim to renew our faith and gratitude toward God as the source of all life and the universe.”
Keynote speakers will include Pastor Elie Henry, President of the IAD; Dr. Luciano U. González Olivares, PhD in Earth Science, of the Geoscience Research Institute for the IAD at Montemorelos University; Dr. Efrain Velázquez, president of the Inter-American Adventist Theological Seminary; and Dr. Faye Patterson, among others.
“We are excited to celebrate Creation Sabbath together, as a unified expression of faith, recognizing God’s creative power and His constant presence in our lives,” said Patterson. She also highlighted that the event will remind Seventh-day Adventists of their responsibility as stewards of the earth, offering an opportunity to educate children and youth about the origins of life and the importance of respecting and caring for nature.
The Geoscience Research Institute offers a series of resources, initiatives and activities that members and their friends can engage in during Creation Sabbath.
The live stream will begin at 5 p.m. Miami time on October 26, 2024. To watch, go to webcast.interamerica.org. The program will be carried in Spanish, English and French.
