Northern Caribbean University Announces Appointment of New President
Current Inter-American Division vice president and NCU alumnus Dr. Balvin B. Braham will assume the university’s presidency on Sept. 1, 2026.

The Board of Governors of Northern Caribbean University (NCU) has announced the appointment of Balvin B. Braham, Ed.D., as the institution’s next president, effective Sept. 1, 2026.
Dr. Braham brings more than three decades of leadership in higher education, organizational management, and faith-based administration. An experienced executive, educator, pastor, and author, he has built a distinguished record in strategic leadership, institutional development, governance, fundraising, and executive leadership development throughout the Seventh-day Adventist Church across the Inter-American Division (IAD) and beyond.

Dr. Braham currently serves as a vice president of the IAD, a role he has held since 2022. Since joining the IAD in 2005, he has served as assistant to the IAD president, field secretary, human resources director, and associate youth ministries director, among other key positions.
Before his service stint at the IAD, Braham served as president of the West Jamaica Conference, union youth ministries director, conference departmental director, local church pastor, and school principal. Likewise, he helped coordinate the beginnings of the NCU’s Western Regional Campus in Montego Bay. Braham has also served as an adjunct lecturer at NCU, AU, and the Inter-American Adventist Theological Seminary.
His extensive leadership experience includes service on numerous governing boards, including those of educational and healthcare institutions. He was also member of the Inter-American Division Boards of Education and Ministerial and Theological Education, in charge of setting standards in those areas. Throughout his career, Braham has championed strategic planning, organizational governance, and human resource management. At the same time, he has encouraged fundraising initiatives, public-private partnerships, better crisis management practices, and institutional excellence.
Braham has published works on leadership and evangelism and has helped develop leaders throughout the global Adventist Church.
In welcoming Dr. Braham to his new role, Pastor Glen O. Samuels, chairman of the NCU Board of Governors, expressed confidence that Braham’s “visionary leadership, unwavering commitment to Christian education, and passion for student success” will guide NCU “into a new era of growth, innovation, and regional impact.”
Dr. Braham succeeds Professor Lincoln Edwards, who concluded his tenure as president in May.
Northern Caribbean University is a 119-year-old liberal arts institution of higher learning in Jamaica owned by the Seventh-day Adventist Church with an enrollment of under 4000 students.
