How to set your receiver for different languages
[Applicable to Europe, and countries using large-dish systems—Africa/Asia, where more than one channel is available]
The First or main channel will always be in English. The Second Channel will carry 2 languages (on Left and Right sides), which may vary, depending on the time of the broadcast.
Method 1: Settings on your receiver
Most receivers have a LANGUAGE button on the remote control. Use this to select Left or Right audio sides.
If yours does not have this button, please consult your instruction manual.
For Scientific Atlanta receivers: Move to the channel containing your language. Select Menu, then Receiver Status, then User Setup. Go to TV Audio and press Select until the Left or Right channel displays. Exit and save settings. Note that only the AV /RCA outputs must be used.
Additional information for Scientific Atlanta IRD’s:
If you select the left or right audio channel in the User Setup menu, this process is only effective for the “UHF-OUT” connection. The audio selection is ineffective on the RCA or SCART socket. In this case, don’t use an SCART plug. Better use a triple RCA cable and plug out the unwished language plug. (Note: yellow socket = Video, white socket = left audio, red socket = right audio) The RCA and/or SCART-sockets allow better picture quality than the UHF-Out.
Method 2: If you are unable to turn off the language you do not require (using Method 1), remove the Audio Output plugs in turn at the back of the receiver until the desired result is achieved.
