During the past few months, the Seventh-day Adventist Church throughout Inter-America has embarked on aggressive evangelistic efforts to reach the 3-million-member mark. It’s a milestone that has church leaders and members alike working towards that goal. Joint efforts have led to an upcoming special satellite event that will feature massive baptisms throughout Inter-America’s 15 regions live on March 24 from the Dominican Republic.Called

Called “Pentecost and More,” the live satellite transmission will be broadcast from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic through The Hope Channel, Esperanza TV, Nuevo Tiempo, 3ABN, 3ABN Latino, and Red ADvenir, beginning at 10:00 a.m. (Eastern Standard Time – Miami Time). Pastor Balvin Braham, associate director of the Ministerial Association for the church in the IAD, says that the theme “Pentecost and More” was chosen as a “motivation for the first quarter evangelistic activities in the Inter-American territory, intended to involve every member, every church, every pastor, every conference/mission, every Union and every officer and departmental leader at the IAD office, towards the realization of the 3-million membership status of the Division.”

The Pentecost theme was derived from the biblical Pentecost found in the Book of Acts, Chapter 2, when 3,000 people were baptized in one place, explains Pastor Braham. That one place where 3,000 will be baptized is the Dominican Republic, where intense evangelistic campaigns started earlier this year.

Thousands more are expected to be baptized throughout the entire territory, according to Pastor Braham.

The three-hour satellite event promises to be the first such event featuring a live transmission from every union.

Highlights of the event will include guest speakers Jan Paulsen, President of the Adventist World Church, and Pastor Israel Leito, president of the church in Inter-America. Special musics will also be featured in every regional territory.

Standing at more than 2.8 million members at the end of 2006, church leaders are confident that the 3-million mark will be reached that day.

“Should that goal evade us, we are assured that, based on our baptismal trend over previous years, [3 million members] will be realized within a few months,” says Pastor Braham.
